Born and raised in Frankfurt (Germany), she and her family moved to Sarnia Lambton in 2011. Although she always dabbled in various artistic endeavours, in 2020 she started to seriously pursue art. At that time, she also took the challenge of teaching herself to paint with pastels. The immediacy of pastels, along with the luscious colors and textures captivated her. Her contemporary work is focused on local landscapes and seascapes. Wilma's work was part of several exhibitions, she displayed her originals & prints at local businesses and galleries. Waves are the artist's recurring theme and Lake Huron is a continuing source of inspiration.
In September 2023 she won the Panel's Choice Award at the ART COMP in London, Ontario. A life-changing event.

Soft pastels on sanded pastel paper (framed).

"Anatomy of a Wave" is my powerful yet calming representation of a wave.
I layered soft pastels onto sanded paper and blended them with my fingertips. By layering multiple values from dark to light I created the illusion of transparency and depth which draws the viewer’s eyes into the painting. Waves remain my favourite motif: their shape, colour palette and shifting energy always inspires me.
