ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am currently focusing on minimalist photographic storytelling that explores the relationships of unusual patterns in nature with everyday objects, pareidolias and human beings.
My passion is to capture fleeting moments, everything becomes part of the composition that I am weaving with my photographic storytelling.
I believe in the power of visual storytelling, I'm passionate about telling stories using a variety of media, including filmmaking, writing and photography. Taking photographs allows me to explore past and present themes, memory, disappearance and loss, and often to reflect on how we see and interpret beauty. My images represent life experiences influenced by memories and dreams and how they often reveal confusing but exciting connections and patterns.

Triptych of wild forest in Havana (2023)
Photography, Acrylic & Metal Print
11” x 14" (27.5 x 35cm)

All these photographs are part of my ongoing series "Catch and Release" minimalist photographic narratives that capture fleeting moments and the sacred geometry of nature. In this series Yannis Lobaina explores textures, patterns, spirals, pareidolias (faces), and spiritual significance, transforming these moments into timeless visual poetry. Yannis used photography as another medium of engaging in her daily conscious meditation by slowing down, observing, and enjoying the present moment while listening to Mother Nature, our home for healing and cure. Catch and Release reflects her spiritual journey as an immigrant artist and mother, grounded in the beauty of the natural world. I invite attendees to stop and honour the instance, to reflect on our relationship with the environment and our connection with Mother Nature.
