"Justin Minister is a Toronto-based photographer who skillfully manipulates light and shadows in his art. His journey began during the pandemic, rekindling his teenage passion for photography. Now, he cleverly employs light to evoke mood and emotion with his black-and-white street and architectural photography. With over a decade of graphic design experience, Justin has a keen eye for composition and detail, making his work a symphony of art and light."
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
For me, everything starts and stops with light. It will make or break your photos and is often the first thing I notice when walking the streets. Light can shape the way we view a scene. The hard, geometric shadows of the midday sun. A gap between skyscrapers spotlighting a slice of the city. A pool of reflected light that has bounced of numerous panes of glass before falling to the street and creating beautifully ethereal patterns. On a fundamental level, light is my main subject and I try and use it to convey a sense of mood and emotion within my photography and highlight slivers of Toronto and the numerous lives, stories, and mysteries that inhabit it.
