Dawn of Man is a scene from Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 epic science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Before taking viewers on a journey through space and technology, the film famously begins with the “Dawn of Man” sequence that shows ape-like hominids fighting and breaking up some bones. Since the Monolith appears, these apes are gaining intelligence. An ape (Moonwatcher) is projecting and analyzing cause and effect with his envisioning of killing a tapir. Moonwatcher picks up a bone and begins tapping the rib bones with it, one finally flipping in the air.
