Leslie Cooper Sharpe
I am a self taught artist working out of Burlington ON.
I have built a successful career in the finance industry and am a mother of two active teenagers. The family spends our summers camping and exploring the large network of Ontario provincial parks. I have always been an avid artist from an early age, drawing pets and family portraits using pencil and oil pastel.
I paint with acrylic paint, using both brushes and palette knives for lots of texture. I paint with vibrant colour, movement, and an eye for detail. I love painting animals but focus on landscapes across Canada, and primarily the lakes, rivers, and big skies of Muskoka and Northern Ontario. The unique and varied local landscape provides unlimited inspiration!
My work was selected by New York City based composer and pianist Margin Alexander as one of 12 works showcased in his concert: The Manhattan Music Exhibition in August 2022. Margin Alexander personally selected all 12 works based on the inspiration and connection that Margin felt to each of the pieces. Margin composed original music to pair with each of the works. It was an honour to be a part of such a unique, international event and to be included as one of 12 great artists from around the world. What an amazing experience to hear your painting expressed through music!
I continue to evolve as a painter exploring the natural landscape offered across Canada bringing it alive through colour and visual expression. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful country. It brings a sense of calm and adventure at the same time!
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
There are moments in one's life where everything comes into focus and you realize what is really important. What really drives happiness for you and how do you want to spend your time in this life. I call this the third Dimension. It is that last layer of consciousness where you peel away all of the negative emotions and feelings and really acknowledge to yourself the kind of person you want to be.
My perspective has become very clear in these past few years. Spending time with the people that I care about most and doing things that make me happy, being kind and respectful to everyone, being open to meeting new people, and exploring this wonderful country that we live in through art.

I love the calm nature of this painting. It brings back memories of the waves of the lake gently lapping up against the shore and the boat. The shoreline is left very abstract but what really works is the play of the late sun rays bouncing along the rocky edge and the side of the boat. If you look at this painting in a dark room you can feel the last rays of sun. The deep shadows of the canoe and the reflection of the sun going down on the horizon enhances that moody late evening glow.

The beautiful abstract background represents the fall colours of the forest with lots of yellow, pops of orange, and deep blues and purples in the shadow. The wolf is a part of this landscape, blending in with the colours of the forest watching to see what the viewer will do next.
