My artistic journey started in 2000 when the desire to create art became a passion. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design I made Toronto my home. From small sketches to large scale projects, my art is a highly-personal reflection of myself and my interactions with the world around me.

I’ve been fortunate to have participated in group exhibitions, as well as exhibiting in a solo capacity, which has solidified my reputation as a professional artist. I continue to explore creatively every day! My paintings have been exhibited in Italy at the Primo Piano Gallery, in Miami at Art Takes Miami, and in Toronto art galleries.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My body of work is based primarily on painting and abstract expression. Themes in my work include nature, the environment, memory and personal experience. When developing an artwork my artistic process combines both utilizing reference images such as sketches, studies and photographs as well as trusting in my creative instinct. Texture, layering, colour and brushwork are all important formal elements in my paintings. As an artist I will often re-visit themes and return to further develop concepts that remain at the center of my work. I see art as empowering and transformative for both the artist and the viewer.

This painting was inspired by a memory of a day trip when I was travelling in the UK. We had just hiked from a bus stop to a small castle in the countryside. Once we reached our destination we had tea on the patio set aside for tourists that overlooked the garden. I remember feeling refreshed by the tea and the beautiful view. I wanted to express that feeling of being in the coolness of a garden with a palette of greens, turquoises and blues. The yellow sunshine splashes balance the cool colors and provide contrast. For me there is a feeling of happiness and engagement with new surroundings, that is special to travel adventures.
