My name is Corrie Gancman.
My art centres around the basic elements of design, colour, shape + type.
The classic principles of design used in my work are informed by my professional training as a graphic designer, but the complexity and depth weaved within the pieces are rooted in my personal experiences.
I never give myself a strict vision of what a piece will be. After applying layers of paint and texture on a blank canvas the work tends to reveal itself to me. I don’t choose colours before I start because I love discovering where the paint will unexpectedly take me. Colours can complement + contrast each other and I’m especially fascinated by the emotions that unconventional combinations can evoke.
My goal is that my paintings engage every viewer in conversation and inspire them to find their own personal connection within the layers.
