All My Love, Zion

I was inspired by the idea of painting Zion National Park in Utah as a vintage postcard. I often travel to National Parks to climb in the winter, and I love noticing how the colors of each park change throughout the seasons. In my memory Zion was a haze of nuanced rust reds and slate grays. I made this painting with many thin washes of paint that I immediately wiped away. This piece feels cozy and cold at the same time. The layers are so thin that the edges of priming marks still show through, like breaks in glass. I’m fond of all my works’ beginnings, especially when some things still remain at the end, like a mountain after a full cycle of seasons.
