My painting captures the dramatic intensity of the Battle of Myeongnyang, fought on October 26, 1597, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Joseon navy faced overwhelming odds against the Japanese forces in the treacherous Myeongnyang Strait. The composition conveys the chaos and heroism of the battle, with Yi Sun-sin’s iconic turtle ships navigating the turbulent waters as they face the might of the larger Japanese fleet. Through dynamic movement and bold contrasts, I aim to evoke the unwavering courage and strategic brilliance of Admiral Yi, who, despite being vastly outnumbered, turned the tide of history. This work honors the courage, resilience, and tactical genius that defined this pivotal moment in Korean history.
