Blue Moon grew from my fascination with the quiet mystery of a moonlit sky. I wanted the painting to feel peaceful, but also full of depth, as if the light of the moon were opening a space for reflection. The blue tones create a sense of stillness and distance, while the moon draws the eye and gives the scene a gentle centre.

I began without a sketch, allowing the colours and shapes to develop as I worked. I built the composition intuitively, layering acrylic paint and adjusting the surrounding blues until the moon’s presence felt balanced within the canvas. Rather than using black, I rely on colours such as Payne’s Grey and Dioxazine Purple to deepen shadows while keeping them alive. I continued until the painting held the quiet, luminous feeling I was searching for: a moment beneath a blue moon, suspended between night and wonder.
