My name is Andy Dass and I am a contemporary artist from Montreal, Quebec. My passion lies in creating vibrant paintings, and illustrations that evoke feelings of nostalgia. I love to paint worlds and characters that transport the viewer to my own personal universe. Worlds full of whimsy and abstraction. My aim is to capture the imaginative wonder of my childhood, while exploring the satirical, humorous, and thought provoking aspects of everyday life. Over the years I have been grateful enough to cut my chops doing collaborative mural painting, exhibiting works in various galleries, and art fairs, live paintings, fashion design, and collaborating with non profit organization Fashion Fights Cancer.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I envision my planetary paintings as symbolism for the active mind—a visual embodiment of the phrase "He's in his own world." Each canvas adorned with painted galaxies serves as a form of escapism, inviting viewers to momentarily divert their attention from the realities of the present. These artworks function as metaphors for the thoughts that weave through our minds daily. They are also a personal reflection of my own introspection. As for my Surreal landscapes, I am intrigued by the idea of recreating nostalgia and fond memories. The trees, houses, and patterns are meant to pique the viewers' imagination and transport them back to simpler times. My work is also inspired by my love of Saturday morning cartoons, the 90s era of music, and pop culture. Through my art, I aim to strike the perfect balance between entertainment and thought-provoking insight.
