The sun has just slipped behind the mountains, and Howe Sound holds the last of the light. The sky glows soft gold above the peaks, and the highest summits catch a final touch of fire. Snow still rests on the far ranges, cool and blue in the shadow. In the middle of the water, Bowyer Island lies quiet and dark, its western shore still glowing where the sun reaches. A few small cabins shine at the water's edge, and their light falls in long ribbons across the surface. The whole Sound shimmers — blue, green, and gold — like a field of broken jewels. It is a still and unhurried moment on the coast, when the day lets go and the water keeps its glow.
