This watercolor series pays homage to the essence of Washington, D.C., through symbolic representations layered within the iconic outline of the city. Envisioned as a box of chocolates, the D.C. outline becomes a metaphorical container, each chocolate representing the city's diverse people, cultures, and stories. Hidden among the chocolates are Adinkra symbols, a nod to African heritage, subtly woven into the design to honor the roots and resilience of the community.

This is my city, Chocolate City—earning its name from the rich legacy of African American culture, resilience, and excellence that shaped its soul. From the rhythms of go-go music to the echoes of civil rights leaders, D.C. stands as a beacon of Black creativity and power, a testament to its history and heritage. The box of chocolates serves as a vibrant tapestry, where each piece tells a story, and the Adinkra symbols remind us of the values and wisdom passed down through generations.
