This piece was inspired by the depth and richness of a Victorian colour palette - burgundies, chestnut brown, dark blues and greens. There is something deeply romantic and elegant about these jewel tones. Closer to my heart is both traditional and modern playing with the contrast of dark and light, softness and boldness, movement and stillness. It is a painting that evokes a quiet sense of nostalgia.
