Acrylic and pencil on gallery wrapped canvas.
36x36x1.50"
Mine are bold abstract paintings, acrylic and pencil on gallery wrapped canvas. Inspired by the beautiful shapes, textures, and colours in nature and especially in gardens, I create layers and layers of contrasting elements, freely taking myself (and hopefully the viewer) on an adventure full of wonder and hidden surprises. As the paint, pencil markings, and colourful forms take shape, my wish is for YOU to be lifted in spirit, as I am, and experience moments of true joy and happiness.
A little about me… Frankie Cambria
I was born and raised in Montreal and have lived in a busy household in Pointe-Claire with my husband and three boys for many years. In January 2022, we became empty nesters and retired. Finally, some time for us, for me.
I wanted a fun project for the winter months, so I immersed myself in an autodidactic approach to learning about abstract art, reading numerous books on the subject and taking endless notes. I talked to other artists and followed many on social media. I read all about Austrian painter Gustav Klimt, loving his swirls and circles and beautiful colour combinations (minus the nudes!). I also took inspiration from Nova Scotia artist Maud Lewis. She didn't shy away from bold colours and she spread joy and optimism.
I decided my first project would be to paint a large canvas for our bedroom. After a small investment in a large canvas 36"x36" and paint (I chose acrylics for easy clean up), I began my project.
That decision changed my life, and so began an extraordinary art journey! That first painting was selected for a juried exhibit in October of 2022 at Stewart Hall’s Art Rental Collection 2023, and it sold. I never looked back as I entered a whole new world of expression and freedom. I am hooked, and have fallen in love with painting and creating (hopefully) beautiful art. In that first year, I sold many to friends, and much to my surprise, I sold a few to perfect strangers. It was a great start to a new hobby which quickly became a true passion.
The following year (2023), I had the honour of having two solo exhibits at Victor Rose Café and at Studio 77 in the Pointe-Claire Village; and two group exhibits with the Artists’ Association of Dollard (AAD).
And once again, one of my paintings, a very recent one this time, was selected by a jury for the Stewart Hall Art Rental Collection 2024. Also, in 2023, I became an Executive Member of the AAD and, to my absolute delight, a member of the coveted Lakeshore Artists Association (LAA). In addition, I was the first artist ever to exhibit at DeSerres in Pointe-Claire and they invited me to teach an Intuitive Art class on Saturdays in January 2024. And the exhibits, both group and solo, just keep coming! 🥰
