Embarcadero Light Spiral is an abstract light-painting photograph created along San Francisco’s Embarcadero. Shot on color film with a Nikon 35mm camera, the image was made during a long exposure while the camera was deliberately moved through space. The movement transforms the building’s lights into sweeping ribbons of electric blue, red, green, yellow, and white, creating layers of luminous curves and geometric patterns against the dark background.

The resulting photograph sits somewhere between photography and abstract painting. The original architectural lights remain visible beneath the layers of movement, while the long exposure turns them into an energetic, almost three-dimensional composition. Each sweep of light records a moment of physical movement, making the image impossible to reproduce exactly.

Captured on 35mm color film, this photograph is part of my exploration of intentional camera movement and light painting—using the camera itself as a brush to transform the lights of San Francisco into abstract visual art.
