”Eventide” was inspired by my favorite funeral hymn “Abide with me” by Henry Francis Lyte (1847).

Abide with me fast falls the Eventide
The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless O abide with me.

The reference image was taken at Telford Lake in Leduc, Alberta during a magnificent summer sunset. It was the first day we took out my son’s canoe and we saw a host of beautiful white pelicans.

Pelicans have been associated with parental love and sacrifice. Within the Christian tradition, the pelican has long been a symbol of Christ’s sacrificial love since the pelican was believed to pierce its chest with its beak to feed its young. This painting is dedicated to my late father who loved unconditionally.

Vibrant hues of blue, pink, and orange blend as a serene lake reflects the sky's rich colors. Sunlight breaks through the clouds above, casting gentle rays over the water and the trees lining the horizon.
