Golden Bird

Acrylic on wrapped canvas.

A brilliant yellow bird rests on a branch above a sweep of blue water, beneath clouds brushed with pink, lavender, and blue. I would title this painting Golden Bird Over Blue Water. The bird’s vivid colour gives the scene a point of warmth and presence, while the blue spaces invite the eye to travel between sky and water. The sturdy branches make a natural perch and lead us back to the bird, holding the composition together.

I began intuitively, without a sketch, building the scene through layers of acrylic. I shaped the blue water and distant bands first, then developed the soft, rounded clouds with contrasting pink and violet tones. The branch adds weight and structure; finally, I brought the bird forward with bright yellow, carefully placed dark and white markings, and small touches of red. The result balances a still moment with lively colour.
