From girlhood we are taught to survey ourselves and how we appear to others, and this becomes so second nature that catching an unposed glimpse of ourselves in a reflection is a shock. We suddenly see ourselves as we are and writhe at the unfamiliar feeling of our own eyes looking.

If we don’t feel beautiful, and this is uncomfortable, we ask ourselves « how can I become more potent? ».
