This painting was created from my fascination with Japanese and Chinese culture and my appreciation for the beauty and character of traditional objects. Although I have never visited Japan, I have collected objects from Japan that have inspired me in my painting.

A Japanese doll and traditional fan are among the objects featured in the composition. I was drawn to their delicate forms, patterns, and quiet presence, and to the way they could interact with colour and light within a still life.
The painting is not intended as a literal representation of Japanese culture, but as my personal response to the objects and aesthetic traditions that have captured my imagination.
