Lanna Kingdom

Acrylic, beads, trim, fabric on wood.

48x36x1"

Known as the Kingdom of a Million Rice Fields, Lanna flourished between 1259 and 1558, when it was conquered by Burma and later taken over by Siam. In 1920, Siam annexed the Lan Na states into present day Thailand. I pieced together the fabric background before painting on the Thai symbols and then applied the beading to represent the ornate and gemlike patterns.
