Colour and light have always felt deeply connected to memory for me. Sometimes a particular quality of light can return me to another time before I’ve even consciously understood what I’m remembering.

Light Leaks reminds me of the photographs I made as a child, when film was imperfect and unpredictable and I didn’t really know what I was doing. Light would find its way onto the film and leave behind these strange washes of colour, something unintended becoming permanently embedded in the image.

There is something about that process that feels remarkably similar to the way memory works. The past doesn’t always return as a complete story. Sometimes it arrives as a colour, a feeling, a fragment of another place or time bleeding unexpectedly into the present.

A light leak is an overlap. Two moments occupying the same space. Something that was supposed to remain contained finding its way through.
