In the whiteness of the alpine winter, two Dall sheep rams face each other in the ritual of the rut. Their massive, curled horns tell the story of age, dominance, and the fierce competition for mates that defines this season. These contests, sometimes violent and echoing through the mountains, determine which ram earns the right to pass on its genes.
