Inspired by one of the most joyful and emblematic traditions of Charalá, my hometown, Neugatas pays tribute to the popular competition held each year in the waters of the Taquiza River. During this event, participants float downstream on rubber tires, carried by the current and laughter, in a celebration that unites the community with its natural surroundings.

The name Neugatas combines the words neumático (tire) and regatas (regattas), symbolizing the fusion of creativity and collective joy. In this painting, vivid colors and naïve forms capture the movement of the river, the warmth of the sun, and the festive energy of those who take part.
Neugatas is a celebration of Charalá’s identity—its river, its people, and the simple joy of living in harmony with nature.
