Nine cats

In Nine Cats, a dark forest becomes a place of discovery. The bare trees and flashes of pastel light first catch the viewer’s attention; then, one by one, nine cats begin to emerge among the branches. Their warm presence brings a playful spark to the mysterious night. I wanted viewers to slow down, look closely, and enjoy finding each hidden cat.

I painted intuitively, without a preliminary sketch, allowing the composition to develop through colour and feeling. I built the dark tree forms against the cooler, luminous sky, then placed the cats among the branches so they reveal themselves gradually. The contrast between shadow, electric light, and warm feline shapes gives the painting its depth and sense of wonder.
