Paradox is part of The Birthing of a High-Rise project. The
project documents the building of the final towers that
completed the construction of Miramar Village in White
Rock, BC. As in many cities across North America, there
has been intense controversy in this small seaside town about
the changing skyline; one fueled by immigration, shifting
demographics and the shrinking space left for new buildings.

Are these structures the answer to our housing crises? Do they
solve the affordability issues that plague our modern cities?
Are they beautiful or ugly? Do they create or destroy
communities? The Birthing of Miramar Village is a
microcosm that reflects these universal questions in our
modern cities, both small and large. This work in particular,
with the crane crossing in front of the Islands’ natural beauty,
White Rock’s iconic view, illustrates the dilemma we face.
