The Rocky mountains are incredible and truly leave you in awe. Whether you're a skier, a climber or simply an adventurer visiting, they will take your breath away. They impact your spirit and give you a sense of the incredible. When a sunset is also part of the beauty, it's beyond words. The sky is black and void of light so every star is bright, every sunrise or sunset a wonder. Peak through the new fallen snow that has fallen on the branches, across the frozen and snow filled lake towards the heavens. Breathe in light. Breathe in beauty.

Winter can be cold. When you peel back the temperature and get outside on a sunny crisp day, spend some time exploring the the way the light shines on the crystalized snow and the play of colour in the shadows. On a walk recently I came across this scene that made me smile. It is my Winter's glow.

Majestic trees growing from rock, water against land and wind, subtle delicate details against jagged edges and yet, it all works harmoniously. Crawford Lake is truly a place that inspires. I have been contemplating both light and darkness in life and in the world around me. When I'm faced with a choice, I always choose light, colour, hope and love. This one evening on the Bruce trail has provided me with revelation, inspiration and hope. Seeing the colours move from daylight through to nightfall, I am inspired by nature's beauty and spirit. Before Nightfall, the woods radiate and become glorious!

Sometimes when reaching for light, there is a need to be bold. I'm in a place in my life where I need to brush myself off, get up and strive for colour and light. Be bold. Dare to be. Dare to feel. I was struck by the twilight one evening and was moved by the iridescent glow of vibrant colour and light through the leaves. Autumn dazzles and slapped me awake. Feel the beginning of something. Awaken and feel.

A painting done in Trinity Bellwoods Park. I quickly added layer upon layer of colours to get the effect of leaves with light filtering through. Shadows and wonderful light dancing on the grass that caress the lovers in the park. They are captured in their own world, with promises of love, tender touch, and passionate kisses. Are they young lovers? First lovers? Forever lovers? Second time lovers? The world needs more love.

On July 29, I had an incredible day spent on Lake Ontario. I traveled from Bluffers Park Marina across Toronto's magnificent harbour, to Toronto's islands. The day was magnificent, the scenery incredible, and the memories created by friends priceless. I decided to paint this moment to commemorate the day.

Gooderham Building Toronto. Isn't it wonderful when lovers go for a walk. When they do, nothing else exists. It's as if they are in there own world. The Flatiron building, shops and restaurants and the beginning of the modern Toronto skyline become their wonderland. Hand in hand on a twilight walk, love conquers all. Layers of colour, shadows and final touches complete this vignette of love.

Starlight twinkles and dancing moonlight reflections on a pond at night. I imagine this Lovely waterlily emitting it's own light when it reflects in the water, one glorious bloom made more bright and beautiful because of the reflection. A blazing, romantic light, petals on petals, colour on colour, love on love caught beautifully like lovers in the night in their warm embrace. Two as one forever on this canvas. Beautiful, fiery and forever.

I've completed this piece with dynamic light and movement. It has it's own spirit, energy and is filled with purpose. It wants to be seen and appreciated. East meets West in a beautiful dance of love, tradition, and respect. A perfect compliment built on reverence, love of the divine and pure spiritual and physical beauty. There are two blossoms here to make that statement.

I had the privilege of doing some en plein air painting in Old Meadowdale Village. I am part of a Mississauga en plein air group that meets in various settings . I decided to use oil paints and worked out all of the logistics. Unfortunately, it started to rain 45 minutes in so we all had to pack up and go. Interestingly, raindrops on oil is an effect! A very interesting one. Here's the final result. Very effective and quite lovely!

Peaceful, Quiet, Brilliant. Oil on Canvas, 18 x 24. This is the fourth in the Peaceful, Quiet Series of paintings.
I've added all the details to the water and given it a layering that truly gives the water a glistening shimmering dance of light. The sun has been blended in but it has it's own light as well. The overall feel of the painting is joy. Uplifting and a true tribute to joyous, ever-changing light. Bright, far-reaching and so beautiful. I chose Vivaldi's Four seasons, concerto in E minor for Violin captures the joy painted in this painting.

Peaceful, Quiet, Radiant. Oil on Canvas, 18 x 24.This is the third in the Peaceful, Quiet Series of paintings. The painting is complete and I'm happy to say, it radiates light and energy. When I look at the painting, I get that spiritual feeling felt on my hike towards Crawford Lake. The warmth of the sun, it's energy, trees standing strong, and a feeling of love all around! Heartfelt and truly beautiful. The painting changes the light that streams through the trees into a Cathedral of light as if the canopy of branches have become rose windows.

Out of the Shadows, Oil on Canvas. 18 inches by 24 inches (61 cm x 46 cm). I've completed this painting using a new process that is slightly different with diluted oil paint layered systematically. The atmosphere and light in this works has punch. I feel this painting is sassy, has attitude and it's own soul. When we move out of the ever changing colours of the shadows, where reds and blues collide, who knows what emotions are stirred. Move to the light, move towards love. Find that radiance and warmth to bath in and perhaps, every now and then be bold.

Yes this is a painting of two trees on an outcrop rock Island in Georgian Bay on a hot and hazy summer day. No doubt about it. But it's also a metaphor of love against all odds with two intertwined and interwoven spirits in an open armed embrace for the ages. All love should be as daring and bold. So, stand tall and hold on tight and enjoy the embrace!

In the Garden, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20. An oil painting in an apple orchard that is also a metaphor. The light shines brightly through the tree branches and leaves to illuminate the apple in the garden. In completing this piece, I've made the lines look like a stain glass window much like those found in a Cathedral to give it a biblical feel. If the apple is love and free will, why wouldn't Eve pick it and take a bite? Given a choice to be submissive, subservient and obedient or have free will, intelligence and strength of character, of course she takes a bite. And of course, she chooses love. If Adam were a self confident strong individual, he would applaud and celebrate the choice. Or is it just an apple in a garden?

A sunset is a personal, passionate and intimate experience that really can be breathtaking. It can be peaceful, quiet and serene but also blazing with colour, and incredibly beautiful. Literally, it can be breathtaking. As you can tell, I love my sunset! And always will!

Garden Blossom Blast, Oil on Canvas, 22 x 28. In this large oil painting, I decided to paint one of the first clematis blossoms of the season at dusk on a wet day. What was absolutely wonderful was being able to paint diffused daylight, water and garden light through leaves. If you look closely you'll see the progression, layering and thought process. Painting with oil is always about patience, perseverance and planning. I feel that the photograph of this painting doesn't do it justice. It must be seen.

Don Valley Weeping Willow, Oil on Canvas, 18 x 24, Don Valley Golf Course. Every Wednesday morning at 6:00 am I golf at the Don Valley Golf course. It's such a wonderful course with so many trees in the heart of Toronto. When I walk the valley, the city literally disappears. On the course there are many majestic Weeping Willow trees that are between 200 and 450 years old. I often wonder how many people have walked by. How many tears has this willow shed? How many changes have occurred during those years? The tree's bark has so many gnarly bits that are ragged and lumpy. This particular tree looks like it has someone trying to escape from inside but the bark has it trapped. It definitely is the tree's prisoner. Take a walk with me!

Twilight Storm Clouds, Galway, Ireland. Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20. One evening, while walking into the central part of Galway, we noticed storm clouds rolling in. The clouds added an extra sense of drama to the evening with intense colours and light that shimmered on the waters.

Little Italy Remembered Circa 1970, College Street, Toronto, Ont. Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20. It was great to have grown up in the Little Italy area of Toronto. College Street was always a buzz of activity with merchants and their wear, family run grocery stores, cheese shops, fish mongers and vendors of bric a brac. Sights, sounds, smells galore. I loved those red brick buildings, old shops with awnings, and random window displays. But before the stores opened, and shops were set up, there was a quiet, a lull that was wonderful. This is my memory; slightly hazy, and still.

Pond Reflections, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20. In my garden I have a small pond that I love. Every spring, I rearrange all the rock that surrounds it, redo the waterfall and add the face of Neptune to a different position. I love to sit by the pond, listen to the waterfall, watch the birds and other animals drink and bath there and just reflect on things. There's always a sense of calm by the pond. It's like therapy. This is my painting of it.

On the Edge, Cliffs of Moher, Republic of Ireland, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20. When I visited Ireland, a must see is the Cliffs of Moher with its stunning view and soaring height at over 500 feet. What's interesting is that you can slip through the fencing and walk in a farmer's field along the edge; no fence or barrier in your way. Such an incredible sight to behold so I painted it!
