Christine Luna's artistic leanings started at an early age growing up in the east end of Toronto. Creating stories in a series of drawings from her favorite pop songs that became murals on the rec room walls of the family home. After highschool Christine continued her interests with drawing and painting classes in continuous education classes in the evenings. In her early twenties adventure took hold with travels to Europe and North Africa, and a propitious hitch hiking trip to the West Coast of Canada where she settled in Vancouver. Christine pursued her interests further by studying at Emily Carr College of Art & Design, (diploma Fine Arts) and pursued printmaking as her medium of choice while continuing with drawing and color theory classes on a part time basis. She exhibited in Vancouver at Malaspina Printmakers, Six of One Gallery, the WECC Gallery and Arts Whistler, B.C. Life took another turn and after a divorce she obtained a BA in English Literature from the University of British Columbia and further studies in Library Information Science. She worked for many years as a library technicianin in the private school system, then a move to run an Indigenous school library in Alert Bay, B.C. Another move to Kamloops, B.C. to set up and catalogue a new library at the Kamloops Art Gallery instilled her dormant artistic leanings. She worked in live theatre making costumes and props, and after another move to Alberta continued to work in live theatre. Since returning to Toronto Christine has again pursued her artistic leanings and joined the Don Valley Art Club, with group exhibitions at Todmorden Mills Gallery, Sunnybrook Hospital Arts Foundations, Artrusian Gallery, the Art For Cancer Foundation, Gerrard Art Space (GAS), Oakwood Library & Arts Centre, Etobicoke Civic Community Centre Gallery, Riverdale Hub Gallery and a reproduction of one of her paintings is in the online Arts & Literary Journal "Beyond Words", Issue No. 6, September 2020. https://www.flipsnack.com/bwmag/beyond-words-magazine-issue-6-september-2020.html
A painting created during Covid was selected and is in the permanent collection at Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto, to coincide with the opening of the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre , Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) in January 2022.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Christine's paintings in acrylic and mixed media explore the relationship between ancestral memory and the longing for finding our place in the ever changing world today. These abstractions explore and question emotions of separation and the stability of our own world.
