Story
In this stand of birch trees, faces seem to appear and disappear among the trunks. I imagine them as quiet presences in the forest—watchful, curious, and connected to the life growing around them. The bright red and turquoise forms bring a lively rhythm to the scene, while the pale birch bark holds the eye. The longer I look, the more the forest seems to look back.

Process
I built the composition with strong vertical bands of green, turquoise, and vivid red, then brought the birch trunks forward in pale white and soft gray. I added the dark marks of bark and branches to give the trees their character and definition. Small green leaf shapes gather across the central trunk, while deeper colors at the bottom anchor the scene. As the layers came together, the markings in the bark began to suggest faces.
