This is a portrait of a woman with mixed roots, drawn in charcoal.
I truly enjoyed capturing her curly hair; it felt like I could reflect the beauty and richness of natural curls.
I’m also drawn to painting eyes that convey sadness and thoughtfulness.
There’s something that seems to weigh on this young woman’s heart, a quiet challenge, perhaps — yet she looks forward with calm courage.

Her full lips don’t smile, but they hold a deep, quiet beauty.
To me, her expression and inner state feel familiar, something we’ve all known.
