Inspired by the song, “Birds Don’t Sing” by the rap duo, Clipse. In the song, the rappers and real life siblings, Pusha T and Malice reminisce on the death of their parents (both of whom died 4 months apart from one another). While the song is incredibly somber, the musicality and delicateness both MC’s bring to the record also illustrated a sense of beauty to me. It read to me that even while in grief, there is still beauty to be found. I wanted to illustrate that dichotomy of “beautiful grief” in this piece and create something that was both visually gripping but allowed whoever owned the piece to be calmed by the beauty within it. Only 4 copies of this piece exist.
