This 40 x 30-inch oil on board was created entirely with a palette knife, using layered impasto, scraping, and direct, physical strokes to evoke the raw beauty of the landscape. Smooth passages in the sky contrast with the rugged, textured treatment of land and water, enhancing both atmosphere and form. The immediacy of the knife allows for boldness and clarity—every mark is intentional. I’m exploring identity through contrasting Arctic and non-Arctic scenes, where two extreme climates mirror the emotional and psychological dualities we carry. The work invites quiet reflection through its surface, scale, and stark presence.
