Fallen

Fallen began with the idea that not everything that falls is lost. Leaves fall, petals drop, people stumble, plans collapse—and yet something new often grows out of what remains.
The painting became a kind of imaginary garden after the fall. Flowers, leaves, circles, and strange organic shapes twist around one another, refusing to stay neatly in their place. Some seem to be blooming while others are tumbling downward. The heavy black lines hold everything together, almost like the garden is trying to keep itself from coming apart.

The spirals became especially important to me. They suggest movement, repetition, and the way we sometimes circle back to the same places in our lives, only to discover that we are not quite the same person when we return.

I called it Fallen because falling can sound like an ending. I wanted this painting to suggest otherwise. Sometimes the most interesting things begin after we hit the ground.
