The First Pond, White Lake marks the beginning of a shift in my landscape work. It was the first painting made using a simplified approach to form, with shapes broken down and defined by a heavy black outline. The scene itself is personal, depicting a small pond near my best friend’s cottage at White Lake, a place we often hiked to when we were young.
