Mixed media on aluminum.
33x46x1"
Further Away than Ever Before is a piece that explores the energy of absence—the space between people, how we miss each other even when we’re near, and how it feels to reach for connection that doesn’t quite land. I wanted to capture that quiet tension of looking, hoping to be seen, and not knowing if anyone is really there. Working on aluminum gave me a surface that holds reflection—both literally and emotionally. It became a fitting ground for a composition built from mixed media: hints of faces, fragments of eyes, impressions of presence that flicker in and out. Nothing is clearly defined. The forms suggest people, but they never fully resolve, echoing the way disconnection can blur our sense of each other. The brightness of the colors was intentional. There’s still life here, still desire, still the potential for closeness. But that vibrancy contrasts with the ambiguity of the figures. It reflects the way we sometimes appear vivid on the surface, even as we feel distant underneath. This piece isn’t about a single narrative. It invites the viewer to linger, to search for others in the image—and to notice the spaces where no one quite arrives. It's about presence deferred, intimacy that flickers, and the strange loneliness that can live inside a crowd. Ready to hang.
