Graceful Leaves

Collage, oil, print, painted papers on canvas.

Graceful Leaves is inspired by the quiet transformation of the landscape as autumn gives way to winter. The work refers to the final leaves to fall as the trees move toward dormancy and the soft, diminished light of winter settles over the landscape.

The palette is distinct and fresh, reflecting the crisp atmosphere of a Minneapolis winter. Cool shades of winter blue are layered with faint, muted greens, evoking the last traces of life held within the landscape. White, reminiscent of freshly fallen snow, brings light and spaciousness to the composition, creating a sense of stillness and renewal.

Created through a combination of collage, printer’s ink, and oil on canvas, the work explores the tension between texture and atmosphere. Layers of color and printed imagery suggest leaves, wind, snow, and the changing light, while the fragmented surfaces echo the quiet complexity of nature in transition.
