He Said What?

This piece is deeply personal to me and directly inspired by the impact the television show Girlfriends had on my life. Growing up as a young Black girl in a predominantly white town, I often felt a deep sense of disconnection and longing for belonging. Girlfriends became both a cultural mirror and a window—reflecting aspects of my identity I rarely saw represented and offering a glimpse into the richness of Black sisterhood. It helped me imagine a future where I, too, could find my tribe. This work honors that vision, the resilience it sparked in me, and the power of representation to shape our sense of self.
