Where its sister piece, Seaward Tracing, speaks to quiet guidance and forward motion, this work acknowledges the turbulence that can arise when we turn back toward our internal centre. It reflects the emotional currents that orbit this point, at times unsettled, shifting, and searching for stability. The painting considers how emotions move around this inner axis, not as chaos without meaning, but as part of an orienting process. Even within turmoil, there remains something constant—a grounding presence that holds us in place. Together, Landward Bearing and Seaward Tracing form a dialogue of opposing yet interconnected forces, describing the push and pull between departure and return, movement and stillness, and the ongoing process of finding direction within oneself.
