Plaster, clay, acrylic, vantablack, fluorecents, iridescent, and phosphorescent custom pigments on wood panel.

36x48x2"

This piece plays on light and dark. Life and death, good and evil. The duality of the universe. Using the blackest vanta blac which absorbs light. And custom pigments which reflect and refract light to bounce it in a way that lets the vanta black paint still be seen. Changes drastically depending on light direction. And glows with particular designs so the viewer feels the heat, char, and emptiness of the black. But is then shown the highlights and paths shown to brighten the journey of the experience to view. This was a very challenging piece and took approximately 1 year to create from start to finish. Both the inspiration and the creative process to make the difficulty of using pigments which are a challenge to use/create. The lava flow that is the unstoppable force of human nature and Mother Nature colliding into a clash of light and darkness. Which one calls out to you? Light? Or darkness?
