In a Purple Flame, poem that comes with the artwork In a purple flame with an amethyst name held on the neck just on the deck it came with the hush of fireflies with the ancient hum of old scriptures wrapped in the twilight of memory It arrived in spirals of light like dancers with no feet like dreams made of smoke eyes open wide not to be seen but to seek the seer In a purple flame I am renewed not returned but transformed repurposed to be mine to be ours to be kind a kind one one of a kind The type that does not fold under laws that were never written for us the kind that grows wild without needing permission from the sterile halls of control In the soil of myself there is no room for rot no welcome for the decadent feast of a world that devours its children and calls it progress no appetite for maps drawn by hands that never walked our path In a violet flame I see clearly that there is no demise only the soft turning of pages only the path of a kind a path that glows sometimes purple sometimes blue and when the time is right it will shine yellow too I am not the flame alone I am the fire’s memory the match before the spark the breath before the song I am what ignites and what rises and what remains In the quiet of this light I walk not to escape but to return to the self that was never gone only waiting in a purple flame
