Remains

Mixed media photographic collage on paper.

26.50x25x1"

Remains layers two versions of a lake scene I shot at the lake on the grounds of Château d’Orquevaux, France. I hand-treated each photograph with acrylic medium and gold before collaging them together to hold the weight of what cannot be unseen. Where the other pieces in this series move through gates, along rivers, through thorny fields — this remains still, the duality of memory of place and how it shifts in reality. This is the moment Albertine reflects on how she lost her love, what drew her to Paris, what she carries, what she has never said aloud. And now, what remains is the duality of what was once home as a place of loss; what once glowed with life now drained of it.
