Photographed from Treasure Island in 1989, this original 35mm photograph captures San Francisco at sunset from across the Bay, with the city skyline silhouetted against a luminous sky.

The Transamerica Pyramid rises distinctly above the skyline while the Bay Bridge extends across the horizon to the right. The setting sun creates a brilliant path of reflected gold across the darkening water, while layers of blue, turquoise, amber, and orange move across the sky.

Shot with a Nikon F 35mm camera, a Nikkor lens and color film, the photograph has the distinctive character of an analog original: natural film grain, rich tonal variation, and the subtle warmth and texture of photographic film. It also preserves a view of San Francisco from nearly four decades ago, before the city and its skyline changed in many of the ways we see today.
