Spring on the West Coast

Spring comes to the west coast in a rush of emerald green. A lone tree stands bare against the sky, its branches only beginning to bud, while below it the land falls away to the sea. Out on the water, the afternoon sun sparkles and plays, laying a wide path of silver light, dazzling and alive, while the far mountains rest in soft blue along the horizon. Among the grass, small violet nettle flowers open here and there, quiet against all the gold. It is a bright and still afternoon at the water's edge, when the whole coast seems to wake, and the light dances on the sea.
