Still Life in the Mirror

This painting brings together a collection of familiar objects arranged in an imaginative and slightly dreamlike interior. A potted tree, a mirror, a red vase, a small framed picture, and a lavender book-like object come together in a composition filled with colour, pattern, and visual details.
The mirror creates another layer within the painting, reflecting a small scene that echoes some of the elements in the foreground. The bare branches of the tree extend across the composition, contrasting with the bright blue, purple, green, and red shapes surrounding them.
I was interested in transforming an ordinary arrangement of objects into something more decorative and imaginative. Rather than simply reproducing what I saw, I played with colour, shapes, reflections, and relationships between the objects to create a visual world of its own.
