A tiny speck out in the middle of a vast ocean. On that speck is an experienced captain and his crew—some seasoned sailors, others out to sea for the first time.

They are, at the moment, sitting in a calm stretch of ocean. A short-lived break in the clouds casts a brief and subtle ray of light across the water. But they can all see the dark wall of clouds rapidly closing in. They can all feel the cool, distant storm winds brushing against their ship.

The captain, for his crew’s sake, must appear calm. But inside, he knows what’s coming. He knows how small and insignificant they are compared to the relentless power of nature—how these calm waters will soon turn into brutal, 40-foot swells.

He read his instruments. He gave his orders. Lines are secured, hatches are battened down, and the deck is cleared. Now, all they can do is brace themselves and wait.
