Oil on linen.
48x48x1.75"
My oil on linen painting "The Color of Time" was inspired by the large clocks which bring us face to face with the hands of time by the efforts of architect Gae Aulenti as she transformed an abandoned train station into the Musée d'Orsay. I find myself drawn to artworks, architectural spaces, and transportation devices that meld the past and present. While living in San Francisco, I lived a few blocks from the Main Library and watched as Aulenti transformed the Beaux Arts building into the Asian Art Museum. Aulenti referred to the mix of past and present in her architectural renovations as a “double ambiguity.'' With sketchbook and camera in hand, I roam spaces that carry this double ambiguity- sketching details, pulling visual moments, and jotting down ideas. My artworks invite the viewer into a deeper contemplation of time, memory, and our inherent meaning within the fabric of existence.
