This collage series take its cue from the compressed poetry of twentieth-century collage: found words, catalogue numbers, destinations, objects and fragments of private language. They pay homage to some of my favourite artists: Joseph Cornell, Kurt Schwitters and Robert Rauschenberg, who studied during my years studying art at The Art Students League of New York during the late 90's, early 2000s and in spending time in the startling galleries of the Five Borroughs of New York seeing the works up close. Each of my collage pieces begins with evidence already embedded in the work and opens that evidence toward mystery. Paint, cloth, film, metal and paper divide the surface into darkness and electric blue. The numbered fragment suggests an inventory, while the objects resist being fully catalogued.
