David Bowie is one of the most special people in my life.

On January 10th, 2016, I was working at the restaurant, even though it was a Sunday. After my shift, around 10 p.m., I heard Bowie’s “Modern Love” playing from the bar nearby. It was a local band, I think. The sound was cheap and noisy, not remarkable—yet something about it struck me. That’s when I realized Bowie had died.

Since late 2015, I had been creating paintings centered around Bowie. When he passed, I was right in the middle of that series. Whether you believe it or not, that moment felt like a rupture in time—where my creative process and his departure collided.
