This piece is par an ongoing series of paintings that explores the iconic figure of Godzilla, a modern mythological creature that serves as both a reflection and a warning to humanity. Godzilla has long symbolized the destructive power of human hubris, emerging from the depths of our collective fears of nuclear disaster, environmental collapse, and unchecked industrialization. In this series, I engage with Godzilla as a mirror to our own destructive tendencies—an emblem of the chaos unleashed by human greed, pollution, and disregard for nature. The imagery of fishing net imprints and crushed soda cans within the paintings symbolizes the detritus of modern consumerism and environmental degradation. The fishing nets evoke the ever-present danger of marine pollution, while the crushed cans speak to the wastefulness of a throwaway culture. Through these elements, I highlight the deep, ongoing damage inflicted on our ecosystems, and the sense of urgency for change. Despite the serious underlying message, there is also a layer of humor, as Godzilla itself has become a larger-than-life figure of both fear and fascination. It’s as if this fictional monster, in all its absurdity, mirrors our own reckless power—simultaneously terrifying and laughable. In this series, I hope to provoke reflection on the urgency of addressing environmental issues, while also inviting a moment of self-awareness about the human condition—how we are both the creators and the destroyers of our world.
