Created in Nelson, British Columbia, this painting reflects my fascination with moss, the forest floor, and the quiet beauty of decay. I was inspired by the way the earth recycles itself, where fallen trees, rot, and breakdown are not endings, but part of new growth. In my process, I build the image through layered acrylic, intuitive colour choices, and expressive brushwork, allowing the scene to emerge slowly through movement and feeling. Thick, textured paint gives the surface a tactile quality that echoes bark, moss, and undergrowth. Through joyful colour and physical texture, I wanted to capture the living energy of the forest and the gratitude I feel for nature’s endless cycle of renewal.
